The word PANGEA comes from ancient Greek PAN = πᾶν = "entire" and GEA = αῖα = "Earth" (Latinized as Gaia), and was the given name to the Supercontinent that existed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras about 250 million years ago, before the continents were separated into its current configuration.
